About The Role

Here at HCR Hewitsons our Agriculture and Estates team is growing. We are looking for two Solicitors to join the team, one in our new Central England office based in Northampton and another based in our Cambridge office.

We work with our clients dealing with all aspects of farms and Estate management; property sales and purchases, tax and succession planning, and dispute resolution. We act for some of the largest landowners in the country, 4 of our clients being within the top 50 landowners in the UK. We are leading the way putting in place agreements to implement multi landowner schemes under ELMS, and to unlock Biodiversity Net Gain. We work with our clients dealing with renewable energy schemes and strategic land sales with values in excess of £100m. We act on secured lending for both borrowers and nationally recognised agricultural lenders.  

You will be part of the market leading Agriculture and Estates team of HCR Hewitsons which has consistently been top ranked in Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners. Beyond this team we have 54 fee earners across the firm working closely with the agricultural industry making us one of the largest agricultural teams in the country.

We are committed to the agricultural industry having been on the NFU Legal panel since 2009 and with close links to the CLA, sitting on County committees and having sat on the National Legal, Parliamentary and Property Rights committee. We are active members of the Agricultural Law Association, with the Director of Education, Committee members, 3 Fellows of the Agricultural Law Association. We actively support and encourage engaging with the ALA and other industry groups.

What we need you to do:

With the support of the wider team, you will work on a range of matters and clients to enable you to develop your own area of expertise. You will develop and maintain knowledge on issues affecting the agricultural industry, keeping ahead of new developments in a changing sector and working collaboratively with experts in the team to share knowledge. This is a genuine opportunity to develop a real specialism in the agriculture sector within a growing national recognised team.

Work with the team to develop opportunities for the referral of work across the business and actively participate in business development opportunities.

About You

  • 1+ years PQE
  • You may have a background in agriculture, or an interest in this, with experience in relevant areas of law including real estate.
  • Able to work collaboratively with colleagues and successfully manage client relationships
  • Excellent technical ability and drafting skills
  • Can demonstrate teamwork and relationship building skills
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Proactive, ambitious and organised with a keen eye for detail
