About The Role

At HCR our nationally recognised Agriculture and Rural Affairs Team is looking to make a senior appointment to drive the growth of the team in the west of England, and Wales.  

The Team has a wealth of experience working with landed estates, farmers, rural  businesses, and high net worth individuals. We work with our clients dealing with all aspects of farms and Estate management; property sales and purchases, tax and succession planning, and dispute resolution. We act for some of the largest landowners in the country, 4 of our clients being within the top 50 landowners in the UK. We are leading the way putting in place agreements to implement multi landowner schemes under ELMS, and to unlock Biodiversity Net Gain. We work with our clients dealing with renewable energy schemes and strategic land sales with values in excess of £100m. We act on secured lending for both borrowers and nationally recognised agricultural lenders.  

We have 54 fee earners across the firm working closely with the agricultural industry making us one of the largest agricultural teams in the country. These include the market leading Agriculture and Estates team of HCR Hewitsons which has consistently been top ranked in Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.

We are committed to the agricultural industry having been on the NFU Legal panel since 2009 and with close links to the CLA, sitting on County committees and having sat on the National Legal, Parliamentary and Property Rights committee. We are active members of the Agricultural Law Association, with  the Director of Education, Committee members, [3] Fellows of the Agricultural Law Association. We actively support and encourage engaging with the ALA and other industry groups. 

    

About You


We are looking for a person with a passion for the agricultural industry to take a key role to develop the teams in the HCR’s western offices which already have a wide reach and client-base in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and in South and West Wales . The successful applicant would have a strong management and leadership skills, or the appetite to develop these with the support of the existing management team. 

We are looking for experience in acting for farmers and landowners within a legal discipline that could include agricultural land and property, private client or dispute resolution. What is required is a genuine specialist in their field who can win work for, and be supported by, a wider multi-disciplined team.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring together and grow a strategically important part of a multi-skilled service team, working within it and with its senior management.
